Rappelz Wiki is currently using the new preprocessor ... hoo-yah!

AboutEdit

G'day! I'm relatively new to Rappelz having only sampled the Epic 4 version since January 2008. I live in Australia close to the beach. I tinker with computer hardware and programming. I am a big fan of linux and open office. This wiki community is the first I have contributed to so I am learning plenty of new things as I go along and share them elsewhere on this page.

I am not a fan of root kits so when GameGuard came bundled with a Rappelz update in late Nov 2008 it sent me and my workstation for a spin. My system is not yet clean of that little nasty because I keep forestalling the inevitable which is a complete rebuild. Sadly, what this has meant is that my interest in Rappelz has waned. Another game, RoM, has captured my interest. It runs without requiring admin privileges, it actually embraces automation and customization in ways very similar to WoW via powerful macros and addons scripted using the Lua scripting language and a healthy suite of function calls supported by an as yet undocumented API.

So whilst this wiki may be my "first love" it is no longer my current mistress!

When Rappelz 3rd job names are announced I do plan on returning to prepare the skill presentation templates so that a consistent look is perpetuated however, I do not plan any contributions other than that.

What I want to see in a wikiEdit

I learn a lot of information from the official forum but am frustrated that the moderators of that forum don't seem to make time to consolidate FAQ's and compose a meaningful help reference. (Kudos to their June 2008 effort to assign several volunteer moderators and subsequently consolidate many of the guides.)

The release of Rappelz Reference Guide v0.9 was a step in the right direction but what I am really looking for is information about game play mechanics and strategy. I don't need to see pretty pictures of pets and job classes.

The in game help was activated some time in April 2008 and so as that expands I plan to refer the reader to in game help sections as appropriate. Ideally the Alt+H help window would answer everything but until then we have this wiki! The contributions I make here are intended to complement in-game data usually in the form of quick reference tables or charts that can be printed on one or two pages but sometimes it is in the form of a (usually verbose!) guide.

I still visit AlizarinHQ from time to time. However, I think the Rappelz Wiki has surpassed that previously popular site in terms of the utility of the job skills and pet skills data. Not requiring new visitors to ask for permission before contributing to the database has proven to be a major draw card at this wiki.

I speak and read Japanese so the JA wiki and the official gpotato JA new players manual are valuable reference sources for me as well. Sadly they use a very different wiki markup language than the Rappelz Wiki and their approach toward presenting tables of data means that copying data from the JA wiki can be tedious.

I love the wiki model because I believe that "almost freedom" to edit freely online leads to faster information assembly and updating.

  • I have been greatly encouraged by a handful of people who have become contributors and helped this community to fill in the missing data and correct errors.

My current focus is no longer the wiki. It's time to enjoy the game! The only problem is: I am not a fan of GameGuard so I think I'll kick the tyres on some other MMO. A close acquaintance is a fan of Silk Road Online so that may be where I spend my time until Gala-Net get their act together and fix chronic problems.

  1. gPotato forum search feature
  2. chat channel abuse / absence of useful filters
  3. GameGuard
  4. lag
  5. rewarding quests and other entertainment for high level players

I would probably tolerate GG if at least 3 of the other 4 chronic issues are rectified.

  • the online game that I migrated to after Rappelz was w:c:rom (a few months) then w:c:vsk

I used to wish that the Rappelz Library would be further along than it is but then I discovered that it isn't open to the general public for edit so came to contribute at this Wikia instead. Follow the status of that enquiry at Forum:GPotato response re Rappelz Library wiki

  • Via a separate enquiry I have learned from GM itoki that company policy does not allow staff to aid players in the collection of data. So the likelihood of this wiki (or any articles herein) ever coming under the umbrella of a gPotato-hosted wiki seems extremely low.

Any pages that I edit are basically passing along my own learnings. I will err on the side of writing nothing if I am not certain of a fact however 95% of the time I have verified in-game anything that I write myself. The primary forum that I scour for tid-bits of information is the gPotato official forum however, I feel I am scraping the bottom of the barrel there so may shift focus to the AlizarinHQ forum in future, especially as Epic 5 information becomes available.

Other than that: Google is my friend!

My charactersEdit

I have three accounts and several characters in game. I choose to play each one with a different style. I prefer not to share my character or pet details here. Suffice to say that my highest characters are low level Rank 3 but I find myself spending a lot of time farming TI for event drops and those lucrative creature taming and multi-race skill cards.

I am not a cash shop user and I have saved every Stamina Saver and STA potion since my second character. Maybe one day I'll go nuts and burn them all at once because I hear that you need them at the higher levels.

SummaryEdit

I suppose you could say that I am the Tortus and not the Hare. I enjoy the journey because I usually get bored with the destination very quickly.

.. and thats about all I have to say about that!

Set site default skin to Monobook Edit

If you want monobook as the default skin for a wiki, edit MediaWiki:AdminSkin and change the text of that page to monobook. GHe (Talk) 21:00, 21 May 2008 (UTC)

JSharp advises this won't continue working. No timeframe specified.

Treat with suspicion:

  • the only surefire way of doing it... use Common.js to append &useskin=monobook to the end of each URL :P
  • and if wikia disables that feature... use AJAX to load Special:Preferences, select monobook skin, save, then reload the page

Testing the CustomizationsEdit

To test your customizations before deploying the changes to all users as the default, use the useskin and usetheme CGI parameters in your URL to access your wiki. For example, the customized Monaco theme on the WoWWiki may be accessed regardless of your preferred skin and theme selection or the default skin and theme using the following URL:

http://www.wowwiki.com/index.php?title=Main_Page&useskin=monaco&usetheme=custom

SkillsEdit

Skills section of job pageEdit

The name of each skill (corresponding to the skill data record template) must be specified at two places within each pair of nested div blocks in the wiki code samples below. Those nested blocks are the key to the expand/collapse view of skill data.

==Skills==
:'''Job Level 1'''
<div class="NavFrame">
<div class="NavHead" style="background-color:transparent;">
{{Skill/Name of skill|skilltab}}</div>

</div>
:'''Job Level 5'''

:'''Job Level 15'''

:'''Job Level 20'''

:'''Job Level 25'''

:'''Job Level 30'''

:'''Job Level 35'''

</div>

<div class="NavContent" style="background-color:transparent; display:none;">

</div>

Skill pageEdit

The descriptive text below is the only customization required on a skill page. Use that to explain the nature of the skill and to expand upon any equipment prerequisite that is not already specified in the table views.

The nested <div> .. </div> blocks are key to the expand/collapse view of two levels of detailed skill data.

{{Skill/contribute}}
Descriptive text complementing (not repeating) the data presented in tables that follow.

<div class="NavFrame">
<div class="NavHead" style="background-color:transparent;>
{{Skill/{{PAGENAME}}|skilltab}}</div>
<div class="NavContent" style="background-color:transparent; display:none;>
