A debuff is the opposite of a buff. Whereas a buff benefits the recipient a debuff causes a negative effect to the recipient. A player uses an Active skill or a Luna Chip to cast a debuff on a target. Common debuffs include:

  • those from using Luna Chips
  • Wrath
  • those from magic attacks by boss mobs or from other players

A debuff may either decrease an attribute of the target or inflict a negative status effect.

List of Negative Status Effects[]

Bleed[]

  • Bleeding stops HP Regeneration and causes Damage Over Time. One example of a skill that gives bleeding is:
  • Piercing Arrow (Strider/Shadow Hunter/Dead Eye)

Blind[]

Target may not attack for a period of time. Movement is still available. Examples of skills which give this effect:

DOT[]

An abbreviation that stands for "damage over time". For a period of time, this effect will cause a specific amount of damage stated in the skill description per interval of time which is also stated in the skill description. Each individual amount of damage done by the effect is commonly referred to as the damage per "tick" (as in the tick an antique clock makes). An example would be a skill which has a duration of 12 seconds and does 100 damage at intervals of 2 seconds. In this example, the "tick" would be 2 seconds, and the "damage per tick" would be 100. The total number of ticks would be 12 seconds / 2 seconds per tick = 6 ticks. The total damage done by the effect would then be 100 damage per tick * 6 ticks = 600 damage. The damage done by a DOT is not affected by the defense of the target. The individual ticks can: cause critical damage, interrupt or cancel casting, and uncloak an assassin. This is one of the most common effects given by player skills. Examples of skills which give this effect:

Fear[]

Target loses control of all abilities and movement for a period of time. During the effect, the target moves in random directions. The target may not attack or use skills. The target may be attacked. Effect can be healed by a siren's Shuddering Cantata skill. Examples of skills which give a fear effect:

Hold[]

Also commonly referred to as a snare. Disables movement of the target for a period of time. All attacks and skills of the target may still be used as long as they are within range. The target may be attacked. Examples of skills which give this effect:

Knockback[]

Not specifically a status effect as there is no debuff icon for skills which have this effect. It causes the target to be pushed back a certain distance stated in the skill description. During the period of time that the target is in the process of being pushed back, the target has no control over movement. The duration of this effect is often stated in the skill description. Examples of skills which give this effect:

Petrification[]

Also commonly referred to as stone status. Attacks, skills, and movement are unavailable to the target for a period of time. Outside of sieges, the target may not be attacked during the duration of the effect; however, all damage effects in place before the status effect continue to do damage (such as DOT effects). In sieges, petrified targets can be attacked. Examples of skills which give this effect:

The Petrification debuff monsters now are able to cast, also allows them to be able to attack the debuffed target. Although the P.Def of the target greatly increases.

Provocation[]

For a short period of time, the target gains a very large amount of threat toward the caster. This is an important debuff for a tank class. Has no effect on other player characters. Examples of skills which give this effect:

Silence[]

Skills and spells become unavailable to the target. Basic attacks and movement are still under the target's control. Skills which give this effect:

Also this effect can be cast by Starlight and Moonlight Dusk Rings.

Sleep[]

Target loses the ability to make any actions for a period of time. All attacks and skills are unavailable. Target may not move. Target may be attacked; however, after receiving any damage, the target "wakes up" and is freed from the effect. Attacks, skills, and movement become available again. Examples of skills which give a sleep or sleep-like effect:

Stun[]

Similar to the sleep effect. However, the target may be attacked without being freed from the effect. Attacks, skills, and movement are unavailable to the target. Most stun effects in the game have a short duration (5 seconds or less). Examples of skills which give this effect:

Yak[]

Effect given by one specific skill. The target is unable to use basic attacks or skills; however, they have control of their movement. Outside of sieges, the target may not be attacked during the duration of the effect; however, all damage effects in place before the status effect continue to do damage (such as DOT effects). In sieges, yaks can be attacked. This effect is given by:
